Masters Degree Course European Cultural Heritage at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder) The Masters Degree Course “European Cultural Heritage" at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder) has been designed as an extra-occupational part-time master programme. It provides methodical expertise in a field, the organizational structures of which are currently being subjected to an intense change. Unlike other studies that focus primarily on construction research and conversions in existing buildings, our priority areas are the strategic management and mediation skills. This is the only study programme in Germany that addresses the following issues: Which approaches and awareness-raising oriented communication technologies can be effectively implemented for the benefit of the modern heritage preservation - and even more so – how can these actions help explore new professional pathways and ideas in education, tourism and in the creative industry? To what extent can they generate projects, jobs and money? These are all questions which should be of strategic importance not only for the shrinking cultural administration, but also for all freelancers. Not only the principles of cultural history and the care of monuments come therefore to the fore of our course. Legal aspects, cultural management and marketing are just as important, as well as basic knowledge about the interactive PR tools of Web 2.0. In the course of the study projects, the cultural potential and the economic and organizational feasibility (business plan) of various, target groups – oriented, specific tasks, that should improve the marketability of a product or service, are explored. Our projects are conceived with the aim of identifying deficiencies "in situ"; by means of students’ fundraising actions audio guides, exhibitions, heritage-educational projects, movies, Geocaching and Weblogs are created.
