Martin Kiefer

Research associate at the Database Systems and Information Management Group of TU Berlin since April 2016.

I am a PhD candidate supervised by Volker Markl. I received my M.Sc degree at TU Berlin and worked as a student research assistant at DIMA for two and a half years. Prior to that, I received my B.Sc degree at Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW Stuttgart) and worked at IBM for three years.

My research interests include data management, modern hardware, query optimization and selectivity estimation.

  • I was accepted as a member of the Huawei student program which promotes cultural exchange with China and includes an educational trip to Beijing and Shenzen.
  • I was accepted as a member of the Software Campus program for excellent PhD students. I will be managing a research project which is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and supported by Huawei Technologies.
  • Our paper 'Estimating Join Selectivities using Bandwidth-Optimized Kernel Density Models' was accepted for publication in PVLDB and will be presented at VLDB'18 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
